Film opening research # 1-It

 

For this assignment I chose to talk about the intro of the horror movie It.

1. how many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?                                       During the opening scene of the movie, there is only one title of the movie name showing.
2. what images are prioritized in the opening sequence?                                                                                -Some images that are prioritized are the little boy wearing a raining yellow jacket in the rain running to see his paper boat floating.                                                                                                                     -The paper boat floating and arriving straight to the canalizations.                                                          -A close up to the clown in the hole of the canalizations.                                                                            -Another close up to the little boy looking through the canalization to look at the clown closer.
3. what connotations do the images carry?

      The colors showing in this first scene are red, yellow, white, and grey. Red being the clown's makeup, yellow being the little boy's jacket, white being party of the clown's makeup and the paper boat as well and grey being the whether and background. They show grey colors to emphasize a feeling of sadness or tragedy happening. The only bright colors showing are the main characters being the little boy and the clown however the little boy's brother is looking at the window to see what the little boy is doing. He is inside the house wearing a grey shirt looking out the window.

4. how is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?                                   The colors really show off a sense of horror or tragedy. The color grey symbolizes a sense of sadness added with the bad weather. The clown has a pretty scary voice while talking to the little boy, telling hi to come closer to get his paper boat that floated in the canalizations. 

5.how does the film establish an enigma [mystery] from the outset?

The mystery is this first scene is the way the clown is hiding in the canalizations and tries to intimidate  the little boy for him to come closer to the clown to get his paper boat he stoll.       5. what strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience? In this short scene, there is a lot of mystery happening. The actors are all young, showing the little boy, around 8 years old and his brother looking around the age of 14.
